There is also the Vitalsearch database. It does not cover all the
states,
and it is only partly free. The best stuff is subscription based. We
have
www.vitalsearch-ca.com but from that you can change it to
vitalsearch-worldwide.com and see what else is available. It offers a
great
deal of flexibility (with wildcards) in searching in the California
information. I believe we pay about $99 per year to make it available to
our
patrons in-house.

I was wondering how many states have a death index? Washington State
has microfilm that lists by decade people who have died, when they died,
and where they died in the state. Does any other state have that?
