[Genealib] CD Caddies

Thanks Kathy. I'm all the library has as far as a computer specialist. It's scary when people think I know more than I do .... but I'm all we have. Actually, I'm doing OK considering I've kept the computers going for about 10 years. I'm always picking at the smart people's brains which brings me to what I've learned since I posted the query yesterday. Apparently, there's a program that can be downloaded from CNet or other free download sites that will solve the problem of the viewing program looking for a CD rather than the hard drive. I'm still not sure of the name of the program but it has something to do with "redirect". It will allow me to tell each viewing program to look elsewhere for the data. I'll do additional research and update you when I find the answer.

Thanks again.

I was hoping you wouldn't ask me that. I haven't done this myself,
which is why I suggested talking to a computer specialist, but I have
read about it being done, so I know it's possible. I know there are
some family history centers that have put their CDs (which use a variety
of software) on a network-attached storage device. I'm sure the method
for getting the software to locate the data varies depending on the
  software.

  I wish I could help more. . .
  Kathy
