Judy, thanks for the information. Although, I'm not sure was "spinners" are. Since you are so close, possibly I could drive down and see your set up.

  Linda et al,

We've been using spinners, like those for music CDs at Pleasanton Library for several years, and have had no problems like you've mentioned, though our collection of 500-600 taxes space, etc. I think binders are less convenient.

We have been using CD Caddies for years to access our collection of over 350 CDs. Over time, the caddy drives, as well as the caddies are worn out and we are finding it extremely difficult finding replacements. We finally decided to discontinue using the caddy drives but now we have some new issues.

How are other libraries handling the problems of patrons using the CDs, especially with the possibility of damage since they will be physically touching the CDs?

Are there wall storage units that work well for libraries or are binders/books a better option?

What about CDs being installed directly to the hard drive, eliminating the need to physically handle them? Is that possible? If not, it seems we should make copies of the CDs, keeping the originals safely away from damage and let the patrons handle only the copies.

I will greatly appreciate any input.
