To accommodate those coming to Hartford early for New England
CONNECTions, the ninth New England Regional Genealogical Conference
(April 26 - 29 at the Connecticut Convention Center and the Marriott
Hartford Downtown) and others wanting extra research time, the State
Library’s History and Genealogy Unit will remain open until 8:00
p.m.
on Wednesday, April 25. There will be an extra retrieval of archival
and special collections materials at 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments
will
be served from 5:30-6:30 P.M. in the Museum of Connecticut History.
Orientations to the History and Genealogy Unit will be held on April
25
at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 and 5:30 p.m.
New England Regional Genealogical Conference
The conference will feature over 40 national, regional, and
society-sponsored speakers, including Cyndi Howells, Cyndi Howells
(owner and webmaster of Cyndi’s List of Genealogy Sites on the
Internet), Patricia Law Hatcher (author of Researching Your Colonial
New
England Ancestor, and Locating Your Roots), and Hank Jones (whose
books
include The Palatine Families of Ireland, and Psychic Roots:
Serendipity and Intuition in Genealogy) who will help new and
established genealogists connect to a wide variety of topics. There
will
also be workshops, an Ancestors Road Show (where conference attendees
can schedule time with skilled genealogists exploring ways to find
answers to thorny research problems), banquets and luncheons.
A special pre-conference Librarians Day will be held on Wednesday,
April 25 at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. That program will feature
four sessions, including “A Sampling of Connecticut Repositories”
by
Richard Roberts of the State Library and Judith Ellen Johnson of the
Connecticut Historical Society.
The State Library and iCONN will be among the exhibitors from across
the U.S. and Canada providing information on genealogical resources
and
services, while other vendors will offer genealogy related books and
other products.
