[Genealib] "Moving Day" & Chicago

For years, I remember my family moving every May.
This was in Chicago, during the 50s and early 60s.
We usually did not move far, staying in the same general neighborhood.
It is likely that our family finances were a factor, not being able /
willing to absorb a rent increase.

Some friends who maintain the Washington Co. NY genweb site told me that
April 1st was "moving day" in Greenwich, NY. This was the day everyone in
town who wanted to move did so. Has anyone heard of this in other towns or
counties. Just curious. Might it have had anything to do with publishing
directories?
I recall something similar in Chicago in the 1950s and before. It had more
to do with landlords' running one year leases from May 1 through April 30
(in Chicago) or, in your case, from April 1 through March 31.
