The Heritage Room is open 46 hours a week (the library is open 70 hours
a week) and there are 2 of us supposedly scheduled in here for 40 hours
a week. I have an MLIS and a Specialist Library and Information Science
degree; the other person has a high school diploma. I spend at least a
third of my time doing general reference work and adult programming, for
7 months this year I spent most of the time not on a public desk working
on a major fund raising event for the library. She spends at least 10
hours a week processing passport applications. Two other Information
Services staff work one weekend a month. Then we have several other
staff that spend between 3 and 6 hours a week in here covering the desk.
Needless to say we do not get much extra done other than basci customer
services.
