Bob, I'm just wondering if there would be a way to collect the info and make it available? Not just to save the terribly high cost of obtaining original copy by a relative but to make them available to all genealogists - wouldn't it be wonderful to have something like the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors System .. which I seem to remember FGS had a bit of a hand in -

Not having anyone in this category, I did not realize this. Perhaps a way around the high cost - for this specific cause - could be found. U.S. Representatives & Senators --- for whatever in the heck they're worth these days! --- could be a start along with requests from such large groups as the National Genealogical Society, the Federation of Genealogical Societies, etc. And is someone like NGS would take on the project of providing a data base ... ?
I'm not a member at this time of NGS, but hopefully someone on this list is and can pursue it.
I'm on the Board of Directors for NGS and I can follow up but I'm not sure that I understand what you're suggesting. Are you talking about finding a way to more efficiently file/process FOA requests ... to collect the information on WWII soldiers in a different way...or something else?
