[Genealib] microfilm scanners

We do not have a microfilm scanner, but we do allow downloads to floppy
disk from our computers. Due to the concerns of the state government,
we have layers of security and patrons are not allowed to use their own
disks in the library's computers. We sell "clean" formatted disks for
$1.00 that patrons can use to download. None of our computers currently
have a CD burner, only players, but we would provide the CDs in that
case also.

We do not charge to scan. We see this as the same as saving to a disk.
We do not charge patrons using the computer to save to storage device.
Why would you not do the same for a patron using microfilm?

We have three microfilm scanners which we have set up with a coin op
to print to a laser printer. We are considering retrofitting one of
those scanners to scan to a computer. It is a Minolta MS6000. Do
any of you have microfilm scanners which are hooked up to a computer
for patron use? (self service) How do you recover your cost? Do you
ask patrons to pay to make a scan?
