Patty,

Regarding obituary requests, we receive quite a few but rarely multiples. If the search is straightforward and requires little time, we request a $2.00 donation to our Friends. For searches which are more difficult (i.e. the exact date not specified), we request a $5.00 donation. If we do not locate the obit, of course, there is no charge. Most patrons are so happy to get the information that they add an extra amount to their donation! We send via whatever format they request -- SASE, e-mail, fax.

Regarding the Bible, you already have several great suggestions! I have only recently found homes for several old family Bibles we found in storage by going to www.rootsweb.com and clicking on "Message Boards" then entering the surname. When the Message Board came up for that surname, I entered a message containing some basic facts about the Bible and asking them to contact me. I only required that they reimburse us for the shipping (one Bible was over 10 lbs.!). Each one sent the shipping plus an additional donation. Had I not found family members within a reasonable time, I would have donated the Bibles to historical museums in their locale.
