[Genealib] Obit (and other) lookups in Fairfax County Library

A team of terrific volunteers produced our online historical newspaper
index that includes obits, marriages, news stories and more

At the bottom of the results page after doing a search, you are told how
to obtain copies:
 
Visiting the Virginia Room

copies there for yourself.

Prefer to have copies sent to you? Order up to 10 articles at a time via
e-mail <mailto:va_room at fairfaxcounty.gov?subject=HNI>  or by phone at
703-293-6383 or by fax at 703-385-1911. Please include your street
address.
The fee is $.50 a page plus $2.50 for postage and handling.
Allow at least 2 to 4 weeks for delivery.
 
This means we will search for 10 copies a week if we aren't backed up.
 
A volunteer comes in every Tuesday morning to search for these items and
we mail them with a bill. While a few havent' paid it seems like less
hassle to collect after the fact rather than before.
 
In addition we get a lot of requests for more recent obits, via letter,
email, library system eref and chat ref, and even forwarded from other
county agencies.
We are a little looser on those. Since we are a suburb of Washington DC
most death notices are in our daily, the Washington Post. We search the
historic edition online and email those results back, search the more
recent online edition for obits, or search microfilm for death notices.
We only require exact date of death and will look for 30 days. If they
have an exact death date we check 15 days. If they are short I usually
just type them up and email them back. If longer we fax for no charge or
ask that they send us a SASE. If they want more than one we may use the
fees above. We kind of choose whichever is easiest on that day for
staff.
 
We are firm about the prices for the copies from our newspaper index,
however.
