I regularly refer the "what do I do to protect this old thing" questions to
the NEDCC's "technical leaflets" and PRESERVATION OF LIBRARY & ARCHIVAL
MATERIALS: A MANUAL available online http://www.nedcc.org/leaflets/leaf.htm

Hi Nancy, These aren't necessarily easy questions, as you know, :)
although they may appear to be. Below are some very brief answers.
Feel free to have him give me a call in Frederick, MD at 301-694-1368,
although I will be away until Saturday. Mary

To locate a conservator go directly to the AIC, the American Institute
for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works
http://aic.stanford.edu/select/select.html. You can search by area
and type of item needing conservation, also useful to poke around at
the other information on that site. Take a special look at
http://aic.stanford.edu/public/select.html --
GUIDELINES FOR SELECTING A CONSERVATOR .

I don't really get what he needs here -- just how to transport them??
A major concern -- is not to change mom's original order until truly
understand what is going on with her material. Real question is what
is goal of all this, continue with her work or what.

Simply photocopy on to good acid-free paper.
