Come spend the day learning about ancestry research at the Arsenal and
Cabildo located in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans.
The Reference and User Services Association is hosting a preconference
during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans, on Friday, June 23,
2006.
Behind the Genealogy Reference Desk: A Tribute to New Orleans 9:00 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m.
You are invited explore the genealogical resources of New Orleans with
expert genealogists and learn how to preserve and protect institutional
and family genealogy records and local history treasures at this one-day
educational workshop. There will be presentations on the special
collections of the New Orleans Public Library, the records of the
Archdiocese of New Orleans, the Freedman's Bank Records, the state of
Gulf Coast Records, and disaster preparedness.
This event is being held at the Arsenal, which is part of the Cabildo
complex, with the Louisiana State Museum.
Attendees will be given a special tour of the Cabildo. It is located in
historic Jackson Square at the heart of the French Quarter or Vieux
Carre.
The speakers are: Yvonne Carignan, Head of Preservation, University of
Maryland; Bill Forsyth, ProQuest; Dr. Charles Nolan, Archivist; Beau
Sharbrough, MyFamily.com; Irene Wainwright, Archivist; and a
representative from LexisNexis.
