I heartily concur with what Rhonda and Heather recommended,  and I also 
think Professional Genealogy: a manual for researchers, writers, 
editors, lecturers, and librarians ;  Evidence: Citation & Analysis for 
the Family Historian, and although in desperate need of updating - 
Printed Sources: a guide to published genealogical sources
