Just completed:  "Suffer the Children: A History of the  Confederate Orphanage at Baylands, Harris County, Texas. 1867 to May 1918"  8-1/2 x 10 (sprial bound or loose for library binding). 70+ pgs. full-name index; extensive bibliography.  $25 includes mailing. Libraries may submit purchase orders; invoice will be mailed.

This orphanage was begun for orphans of Confederate soldiers, after a few years moved from Baytown to Houston and eventually came under the care of the Harris County Probation Department.  taken from minutes and censuses, orphan's names, parents names (sometimes the mother's remarried name), names of foster and/or adoptive parents. Locations and often siblings are named in the records.
