Normally - so what's normal? - there will be some sort of transmittal document when records are transferred to another entity. But of course, the sleuth's hat needs to go on to seek out all the possibilities. We had an old orphanage here where some records ended up in the HMRC (Houston Metropolitan Research Center) Archives - these were transferred from the County Clerk ... and a transmittal document was kept in the cc's office as well as going with the material. Part of the records for a different time period ended up with the County's Child Protection Agency.
And they may be stored right under the current staff's noses!
What kind of 'moderation' are we talking about here? And when? What title is the current staff under --- same name? If so, what about other records for the same time period ... even financial records? ** and don't forget if you are tracing a child or children, those financial records will be important. They may tell you who was paying how much for which boy.
If those and other records are also in storage, then so may be the ones you are looking for.
If the building was being renovated or enlarged, etc. check with the architect and/or builder --- does their office know anything.
When did the Cheshire Boys Reformatory begin - 1910? or earlier? If earlier, where are those records? Apparently a slight name change in 19?? ... so what are the earliest records the current staff knows about - what are they and where are they?
Reformatory? I'd be checking with whatever agency (in what state??) handles delinquent youth.

Librarians can do or find just about anything.
Does anyone have knowledge as to where the old records of inmates Cheshire Boys Reformatory during 1910-1915 might be stored? During the modernization the current staff has no idea what became of the records.
