POSITION AVAILABLE
Genealogical Librarian
Summary of Position:
The Genealogical Librarian is a member of the library staff, and is
primarily responsible for providing genealogical and other research and
reference assistance, to on- and off-site patrons. This is a full-time
position [40 hours/week].
Specific Responsibilities:
--Provide in-house reference service (including bibliographic
instruction)
--Provide service in the Reading Room
(including staffing the restricted desk, photocopying,
paging)
--Provide service at the Front Desk
--Provide Research-by-Mail assistance
--Provide Research Strategy Interviews and instruction
--Recommend genealogical titles for addition to the collection
--Help assess genealogical manuscript donations.
--Advise on the processing or cataloging of genealogical material
--Develop bibliographies and collection research guides
--Serve as a liaison with the genealogical community
--Serve on Society staff committees
--Perform other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in American History, American Studies, or Library
Science (M.L.S. preferred), knowledge of (and a minimum of 3 years
experience with) genealogical research, collections, and organizations;
strong organization, communication and writing skills; desire to work
with and serve the general public; familiarity with a variety of
computer applications. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Employment Status: Exempt
Salary: $35,000 minimum (depending on experience) with competitive
benefits
