The Genealogy Center
Allen County Public Library

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provide access to historical and genealogical
materials, emphasizing enhanced bibliographic records for use by
genealogists and local historians.  Verify or provide basic descriptive
cataloging and entry points according to Anglo-American Cataloging Rules
and Library of Congress subject headings.  Use modified Dewey Decimal
classification system with unique Cutter numbers.  Verify and provide
MARC-tagging of bibliographic records.  Work as one of seven staff in
the Genealogy Materials Handling Unit and provide day-to-day direction
of the work of the unit.  Serve on department and system-wide committees
of interest.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-MLS and one to two years of cataloging
experience.  Strong knowledge of traditional cataloging rules and
subject headings.  Commitment to providing access to historical
materials for library patrons, researchers and historians through “value
added” cataloging.  Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work
cooperatively with a wide variety of people.  The ability to speak in
public on the effective use of the online catalog is highly desirable as
is some background in genealogical research.   Cooperative spirit,
initiative, resourcefulness, good judgment, tact, enthusiasm, and a
sense of humor are essential.  

COMPENSATION:  Range minimum is $37,003 and up depending on experience.
