Try this link. If you do a search "find (on this page)" of "Table height" it will take you to the bottom of the page and show you a chart that might help.

Good luck!

Subject: [Genealib] accommodating the needs of patrons with wheelchairs orscooters

Does anyone have a quick reference to table height requirements for ADA compliance in libraries or other public facilities? We had a patron complain vociferously that our tables were not ADA compliant because his legs would not fit under our tables while he was seated in his motorized wheelchair (although the way it was described to me, it may have been more of a scooter than a wheelchair). Our building staff insists our tables are the approved height and that this person has a higher than normal chairseat. We will accommodate his needs somehow (I am looking at all the small tables in the building that could be moved temporarily to the library, with the legs shimmed higher if necessary), but I would like to know the actual requirement before he returns to the library again this week.

We have more patrons with scooters than with wheelchairs these days. The majority of them can walk short distances and will park their scooters in the room, then move to regular chairs or microfilm tables. The others usually "parallel park" next to a table and turn their seats around to face the table. We always ask them where they would like to sit, then just move a chair or two out of the way.

  Any other ideas?

  Thanks,
